The photographs depict architectural features of the post war era in Coventry and the optimism that surrounded the rebuilding of the city. In various states of use in the 21st century or demolished completely, what will replace them or bring new vision to the area going forward? The architecture of the time was an important symbol of the new, innovative city - but how do people feel about them today as things change once more?
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Aaron is a local photographer and all-round Coventry enthusiast. Born, educated and now working in Coventry. He studied Computing at Coventry University and worked in Tech but was passionate about local history and culture.
Winning the City of Culture bid in 2017 helped shape the following few years of getting stuck into local events, meeting new people in culture and practising endlessly with photography.
Recent developments have inspired an interest in the built environment and capturing the changes taking place in Coventry City Centre. Having studied and worked in the city centre over the last decade the transformation has been immense. So many things of childhood have changed and there is much still to come. It has been enjoyable capturing this process and improving upon the skills required to reflect the story of the city, the place and the people.
Aaron has had no formal photography training and his practice is entirely from mobile/point and shoot camera equipment. This limitation means the images have a certain style and fit together well. In the last year there have been opportunities to work with City of Culture but this has been the first foray into the creative world -albeit an enjoyable one to take part in!
