SESSION 2
HOUSEBOUND AUDIENCES
Friday 9 July, 11.30am - 1.30pm - Online
Access Coventry is a series of online training sessions targeted at professional artists and the small-scale independent arts sector based in Coventry and Warwickshire.
These training sessions are aimed at equipping artists with knowledge and practical strategies to provide for different audiences with different access needs.
This second session in our series focuses on how we can create work for a range of audiences who, for whatever reason, are unable to leave their homes.
Keynote speakers include:
Zoe Partington - The Space

Representing The Space and lead artist for Shape Arts, Zoe is a Disability Art consultant and creative equality trainer for the arts, built environment, heritage and cultural sector. Supporting National and International Developments.

Zoe also works as a Contemporary Visual Artist who uses her installations to develop viscerally-powerful audio visual and tactile representations of Disabled people’s journeys and experiences through spaces.
Katie Walters - Radical Body
Katie is an autistic and chronically ill performance poet who creates poetry and interdisciplinary poetic storytelling for theatre. She leads the organisation Radical Body a disability arts organisation producing radical new works of performance by and for disabled people.

Elle Chante - Radical Body

Elle Chante is a singer and musical self expressionist based in the Midlands.

She is particularly interested in making work that explores issues of mental health, invisible illness and disability and forms one half of Radical Body, an organisation that aims to make careers in the arts more accessible for disabled artists.
Our speakers will be sharing their knowledge and experiences of common barriers audiences from lower economic backgrounds may encounter and how they are working towards overcoming these. At the end of the session, you will gain an understanding of good practice and identify some simple steps to take to make your events more accessible.
Each training session is designed to help you up-skill and increase your understanding of the experiences or access needs of audiences. To get the most out of this course we encourage you to attend as many of the events as you can.
Access Coventry is the first step of many on our citywide journey of creating a manifesto aimed at making Coventry a more accessible place to experience culture.
